“He who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword".

The murder of Paul George Muthoot, a private financier, is a rocking experience for entire state of Kerala and is a severe jolt for Rs 20,000-crore financial group. He was stabbed by goons on the Alappuzha-Changanassery road on Friday last week. The person deputed to take in charge of leisure and hospitality arm of the group has been put in complete ‘leisure’ bringing immense sorrow to his parents. The killing and the related police enquiry seems rather curious and the whole episode excels a Hollywood blockbuster.
The police force which is yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder is groping in darkness. The IG Vincen M Paul who is known for honesty has brawn flakes in the present enquiry. As usual, in this cruel murder also the involvement of one of the sons of Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is alleged. There is not even a single criminal case, of late, in the state -cheating, woman trafficking and murder- without the association of minister’s son. The LDF Government should think of withdrawing the Port Folio of Balakrishnan.
Though it is ill to deprecate a dead man, one cannot rule out the nexus between private financiers and goons. The murder of Paul George has been resulted from his illegal connection with notorious goons. The soft and biased approach adopted by investigating agencies has emboldened private financiers and goons to take law in their hands and act with utmost impunity. The vast wealth amassed by Muthoot Groups might not be completely legal. It might contain sighs and tears of many clients of these groups. It is known that these financiers keep the practice of charging huge interest per annum and levy various hidden and unexplained charges. They extract as much as they could by hook or by crook and that is why a Jagathy Sree Kumar Starrer qualified a financier as “Motham-oottu”. If anyone is unable to conform to group’s deadline, he is subjected to brutal treatment by goons. Goons are part and parcel of private financiers and of course some hi-tech banks in Kerala. Obviously Pauil has connections with dreaded criminals.
It is, therefore, the time for Paul’s parents, brothers and partners to resolve in a new line. They have to relight the famous biblical saying "He who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword".

Running of the pilgrimage is a challenge.

The only silver lining in the recent enrichment of Kerala Cabinet is the transfer of the raucous minister G Sudhakaran from Devaswom Department and the induction of Kadannappally Ramachandran in his place. Mr Sudhakaran may likely to call Pinarayi as Gorbachhov as he once called his CM as Gorbachhov of Kerala. Though Kadannppally will not bring any thing new in the already corrupt Devaswom other than swallowing ‘Bhagaval Prsadam’ he will not pollute the temple premises with obscene words like his predecessor. Sudhakaran was a curse to entire temple goers and believers.
It is to be emphasized that another pilgrim season at Sabarimala is coming up within months. Running of the pilgrimage had been challenging for some years now and the trouble has been complicated deeply by the disbeliever minister Sudhakaran. I don’t think another disbeliever minister Kadannappally would appease Ayyappa Swami with his acts. Kadannappally should at least trim his beard before visiting Sabarimala as the Swami there may likely to be annoyed with his nasty whiskers.

Pinarayi praises Azhikode!

Sukumar Azhikode, who made certain derogatory comments against Chief Minister, V S Achuthanandan, has been finally rewarded. Achuthanandan’s opponent Pinrayai eulogized Azhikode for his unstinted efforts as the coercive force for non-corruption in the state. The absurdity is obvious when the Lavalin accused comes for the praise of the self proclaimed cultural guru.

It is known for all that Azhikode had made some sub-standard and cheap statements against the Chief Minister not only to tarnish his image but also to gratify Pinaqrayi. He had also issued a press statement saying that the Chief Minister had called him over phone asking him to end the controversial statements. However it had been denied by Achuthanandan. Azhikode quoted Henry Thorah’s ‘bird fouls nest’ for belittling Achuthanandan and all that was in good taste for Pinarayi. Pinrayi found nothing wrong with Azhikode when his own comrade and politburo member was being humiliated highly by the self proclaimed patriarch of culture.

It is a wonder that the cultural guru who once worked against communists during the Vimochana Samaram is in the shoulder Communist Party State Secretary. The social critic who fights corruption lacks integrity and never see the corruption of those politicians upon whom he leans. The guru is not able to comprehend corruption in tune with Rs 300 crore and not able to spot any problem with Pinarayi. So it is the obligation of Pinarayi to congratulate Azhikode.

Are investors disgusting creatures?

‘Disgusting are those who invest money in banks and live with the interest accrued’, is the latest revelation of the nutty Kerala Cooperation Minister G Sudhakaran. He is the top executive of the state run Kerala Co-operative banks. It is, therefore, the time for all the investors in co-operative banks to withdraw their FDs and reinvest in other banks. I fear Sudhakaran may soon issue orders to not pay interest on savings in co-operative banks.

Though most of the outbursts of this minister are senseless I would like to bring his attention the following aspect. Deposits by non-resident Indians (NRIs) in Kerala banks is Rs.34,649 crore as on Dec 31, 2008, according to the State Level Bankers Committee and a major chunk is with co-operative banks. If the NRIs withdraw their investment naturally the functioning of the bank would paralyze. Does the minister want to see that?

A retired person often puts his hard earned money in banks to get the interest to meet his needs. He is not in the position to start a business of his own and earn profit. Moreover, it unwise to start a business at the fag end of one’s life as it is likely to collapse. And that is why he wisely deposits his money in a bank. The bank would then issue this money to needy entrepreneurs and thus money invested in the bank by a person is not dead money as the minister thinks. It is cruel to call those investors in banks as ‘disgusting’

Madani-Sufiya case should be enquired by CBI

The Marxist party of India abuses all the time the CBI, the constitutional investigating agency, for what is called its partisan attitude in the Lalavalin scam. The secretary of the party has siphoned out Rs 382 crore, it is alleged. The case against Pinarayi is a fabricated one according to the party. If it is true the Joint Investigation Team of the Kerala Police had done a similar investigation. They arrived at the conclusion that were not enough evidences to enlist PDP chairman Abdul Nasser Madani and his wife Sufiya in the case relating to the burning of a Tamil Nadu State bus at Kalamassery, on September 9, 2005. For opposition this investigation is really a fabricated one as a few extremists arrested else where in the state has given valid exposure about the case. The Ruling Front and Police could not ignore the scene where Madani on a tall wheel chair along with Pinarayi addressed all the people in Kerala including octogenarians as ‘sons’.

It has been reported that there were references to Madani and his wife in the confessions by some of the accused in the case. But there were no evidences to prove their involvement. This seems rather illogical as no proof would come directly before the police. It is foolish to think that Madani and his wife come before police with confessions. It is the duty of the police to find evidence.

The whole episode exemplifies the inefficacy of the Kerala police and its blind dependence on the CPM front. Though the contention of the police that no external interference was being made in the investigations the reason for prolonging the police enquiry, till the Parliament elections remains dubious. So there is a need to hand over the cases to any Central Investigating Agency.
