Infighting within the CPI(M) has spilled into the streets with posters decrying party general secretary Prakash Karat and Kerala State party secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. Road-side banners describe Mr Vijayan, who has been accused of criminal conspiracy in the SNC Lavalin scam, as a “crook fit to be in prison” and Mr Karat as his “stooge”. The huge cutouts of Mr Vijayan, erected at key centres in connection with his proposed ‘Nava Kerala Yatra’, have been smeared with cow dung. Supporters of one Polit Bureau member blackening the posters of another Polit Bureau member with cow dung is an unusual sight. Whether Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan will finally toe the party line on Mr Vijayan is anybody’s guess. But what is not in doubt is that the price of cow dung is likely to shoot up in Kerala!
